WE DID IT!

From May 22 to August 19, 2025, we, the Science and Innovation Alliance Kaiserslautern, together with our network and the entire city of Kaiserslautern, have set ourselves the goal of breaking the world record for the FURTHEST DISTANCE RUN BY A TEAM IN 90 DAYS! Whether young or old, fast or slow, living locally or abroad, anyone who feels connected to Lautern could take part and contribute to the victory.

On August 23, 2025, Laura Kuchenbecker, judge at the German Record Institute, visited us, officially announced the result, and presented the team with the official RID certificate:

Our “Kaiserslautern” team covered a total distance of 382,083.505 km within 90 days with 1,756 runners. That makes an average of 217.59 km per person, which is significantly more than the average performance of 134.19 km by the previous record holder, the Allianz Group.

Many thanks to everyone who supported, participated, and cheered us on! In the video on the left, you can see a review of our best pictures from the last 90 days.

MORE THAN JUST EXERCISE

With this project, we wanted to achieve more than just a world record. We also wanted to draw attention to an important topic: inclusive sport. That's why inclusion athlete Abdul Dogan accompanied us. The wheelchair athlete was be out and about in Kaiserslautern before and during the 90 days to train with various local groups, collect kilometers, and draw attention to the topic of inclusion in sport. After all, people with disabilities often face major obstacles in sports in particular. Drawing attention to this is the first step we want to take together to improve things in the next.

Join us and be part of a unique event!

THE INCLUSION ATHLETE ABDUL DOGAN

Abdul_neu

"Welcome to my world! I invite you to take a look at my journey as a wheelchair athlete. My name is Abdul, but my friends call me the 'inclusion athlete'. At 39 years old, I am not only an avid athlete but also a passionate advocate for inclusive sports. With this project, I want to share my experiences as a wheelchair athlete and hope to inspire others to overcome their own limitations.

As a wheelchair athlete, I have learnt that obstacles often provide the best opportunities for personal growth and inner strength. Despite the challenges that come with a physical impairment, I have never lost sight of my passion for sport and the ambition to realise my dreams.

Sport has shown me that the seemingly impossible becomes achievable if you have passion and determination. I firmly believe that sport connects people and breaks down barriers. That's why I invite you to become part of this project. Whether you are a wheelchair athlete yourself or not, you are very welcome.

I look forward to accompanying you on your sporting journey and at the same time giving you an insight into my sporting life. Let's stay in touch by following me on social media.

Together, we can help to make the world of wheelchair sport accessible to everyone and promote a culture of acceptance and respect in which there is no room for fear of contact."
